It came down as a wall of mud and water through the Lhende and Bhote Koshi rivers. As of this week, more than 270 bodies have been recovered, over a thousand people are still missing, and a second barrier lake has already formed above the debris — threatening to burst again. This is a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) , and it happened at the exact seam where Chinese territory meets Nepal. Here is the part that should worry you more than the glacier. Nepali hydrologists have said for years that China does not share real-time data on the glacial lakes sitting on its side of that border. This is not the first time. It happened in 2016.
